Among the many iconic Harry & David gifts, there’s one that stands out from the crowd — and its height is only part of the charm. The Tower of Treats® Signature Holiday Gift is a staple of the Southern Oregon brand, remaining its most popular holiday gift since its introduction in 1945.
The unique tower was the brainchild of one of the co-founders, David Holmes. “He imagined a whole tower of beautiful gift boxes filled with delicious food and treats, finished with a hand-tied bow,” says Julie Tuter, senior merchandising manager at Harry & David. As with most of David’s visions, this one came true.
The gift boxes in the tower that first year were beautifully wrapped in an assortment of red and white paper, festooned with a large satin bow, and topped with a sprig of holly. Back then, it cost a mere $7.85 for the king-size tower and $6.65 for the queen-size version, $139 and $118, respectively today.
Today, the custom-designed holiday gift boxes contain classic confections like chocolate truffles, chocolate-covered cherries, and Moose Munch® Premium Popcorn. Mixed nuts add a savory touch to the mix, and no tower would be complete without incredibly juicy Royal Riviera® Pears.
“The Tower of Treats® Signature Holiday Gift is the anchor of our holiday assortment," adds Toni Lewis, senior manager package design, whose talented team is tasked with designing the tower. It is refreshed every year, often reflecting popular and trending styles.
The holiday gift tower is a classic at Christmastime, but you don't have to wait all year to send it — there are non-holiday versions that are also available.
